HIWA School Project

Volunteers Needed! HIWA members participate in writing projects with 3rd graders at local elementary schools.

Last year HIWA volunteers worked with Jean Wence’s 3rd grade class at Hilo Union Elementary School. Students talked about writing, read a story about bullying, picked out words from the story, and each individually wrote about their experiences with bullying. These 3rd graders and their writing were featured in the HIWA newsletter, were awarded a a certificate for their classroom, and became honorary members of HIWA.
